WIPO PUBLISHES PATENT FOR "METHOD FOR PRODUCING WORM CAST USING ASH OF SOLID FUEL AND WORM BED FOR PRODUCING WORM CAST" (SOUTH KOREAN INVENTOR)

GENEVA, March 3 -- Publication No. WO/2012/026707 was published on March 1.

Title of the invention: "METHOD FOR PRODUCING WORM CAST USING ASH OF SOLID FUEL, AND WORM BED FOR PRODUCING WORM CAST."

Inventors: Hyung Seek Kim (KR).

According to the abstract posted by the World Intellectual Property Organization: "The present invention relates to a method for producing worm cast and a worm bed for producing worm cast, wherein the method produces worm cast by feeding worms a mixed feed of solid fuel ash, crab and clam shells, and yellow clay. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of: grinding solid fuel ash; washing clam and crab shells, removing salt therefrom, and then removing 80% or more of moisture therefrom; grinding the clam and crab shells that have been washed; mixing the solid fuel ash and clam and crab shells at a ratio of 60-70 wt% of yellow clay, 20-30 wt% of solid fuel ash, and 10-20 wt% of clam and crab shells; fertilizing and composting the mixed composition; and supplying the composted composition to worms to produce worm cast. Also, a worm bed (50) for producing worm cast comprises: a feeding unit (52) for supplying a mixed feed of solid fuel ash, clam and crab shells, and yellow clay; a growing chamber (51) in which worms are grown for producing worm cast; and a dispensing unit (53) for dispensing worm cast produced in the growing chamber (51). According to the present invention, ash from a solid fuel boiler can be used as feed for worms in order to produce worm cast, to thereby provide the benefits of solving the issues of solid fuel ash treatment in an environmentally-friendly and economical manner, and using the produced worm cast as fertilizer, soil conditioner, etc."

The patent was filed on Aug. 18, 2011 under Application No. PCT/KR2011/006072.
