FED: Central Qld coalminers end strike

BRISBANE, Dec 15 AAP - Some central Queensland coal miners voted today to end their 48-hour
strike and return to work.

At an early morning meeting at the Oakey Creek mine several hundred workers agreed to obey
an order to return to work.

In a late night ruling, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission ordered 20,000
striking members of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) in Queensland
and New South Wales to return to work after finding their action illegal under the Workplace
Relations Act.

A spokesman for the Oakey Creek miners said the court order was faxed through after
midnight and was put to this mornings meeting.

The miners strike was called to protest against a deal which would cut the price of coking
coal.
